📖Scripture:
“For all flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the Word of the Lord endures forever.” — 1 Peter 1:24–25
🔎Examination:
Peter’s contrast between flesh and Word could not be starker. Humanity — with all its philosophies, institutions, and self-glory — is ephemeral. The Hebrew basar and Greek sarx both emphasize mortality and corruption. Fleshly systems decay; divine truth endures.
The seed that begets new life is not temporal ideology but eternal revelation. The term “seed” (spora) underscores the act of sowing — God Himself planting His Word into receptive soil (Luke 8:11-15). Jesus, the incarnate Logos (John 1:1, 14), is the living embodiment of this seed. Thus, regeneration is participation in His indestructible life (Heb. 7:16).
Every counterfeit gospel exalts perishable seed — the self. The Social Gospel, Liberation Theology, and Moralistic Therapeutic Deism promise cultural improvement or emotional healing, yet deny humanity’s need for supernatural rebirth. They erect modern Towers of Babel: social reform without repentance, activism without holiness. But God declares, “The word that goes out from My mouth shall not return empty” (Isa. 55:11). His Word endures when empires crumble.
The imperishable Word also exposes the myth of annihilationism and purgatory. Death is not dissolution but destination: eternal joy for the regenerate, eternal judgment for the unregenerate (Matt 25:46). The false hope of “second chances” after death is Satan’s anesthesia to keep men unrepentant. The seed of the Word leaves no ambiguity: “It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment” (Heb. 9:27).
The imperishable seed also reveals the objective nature of truth. Scripture is not pliable clay for cultural sculpting. When modern churches ordain immorality, redefine marriage, or affirm “gender fluidity,” they betray the Word’s immutability. Truth is not relative; it is incarnate. “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away” (Matt 24:35).
🤺Action:
Identify where the perishable seed of cultural ideologies, patterns of the world, human philosophies, political optimism, moral relativism, or religious traditions has infiltrated your thinking.
Recommit to reading, studying, learning, and obeying Scripture as the sole seed of transformation, not merely therapeutic inspiration.
Check the heart of your church leadership, preaching, and ministries against Scripture. If things don't align with the Nine Marks of a healthy evangelical church, but shift the focus from the eternal Word to perishable seed, then they are sowing in the flesh.
🧠Reflection:
Invite the Holy Spirit to renew your reverence for Scripture’s divine sovereignty, sufficiency, and permanence. Ask the Holy Spirit to instruct your heart in thankfulness, reverence, and gratitude so that it would arise amid moral collapse and cultural chaos. Pray that your life would bear the good fruit of your death to the flesh and regeneration by the Spirit — fruit that endures because it was sown from the imperishable seed.
